Moonstone is the latest addition to Marvel Snap’s roster of Ongoing cards, capable of copying the text of your other 1-, 2-, and 3-Cost Ongoing cards in her lane. Think of her as a more powerful version of Mystique. However, building a strong deck around this potent yet fragile card is no easy feat, which is why she's often referred to as "the Glass Cannon of Marvel SNAP."
After rigorous testing, I’ve pinpointed the two best decks for Moonstone: Patriot and Tribunal setups. This guide will help you build and optimize both decks effectively. If you're still undecided about adding Moonstone to your collection, there’s a concise review at the end to aid your decision.
Moonstone (4–6)
Ongoing: Has the Ongoing effects of your 1, 2, and 3-Cost cards here.
Series: Five (Ultra Rare)
Season: Dark Avengers
Release: January 15, 2025
Moonstone shines in decks where she plays a supporting role rather than being the main win condition. For a reliable setup, consider incorporating Moonstone into a Patriot-Ultron deck. The strategy is to have her copy one or two key Ongoing effects rather than relying too heavily on her ability.
To construct a Moonstone deck with Patriot and Ultron, include these cards: Brood, Mystique, Dazzler, Mockingbird, Ant-Man, Iron Man, Squirrel Girl, Blue Marvel, and Mister Sinister.
Card | Cost | Power |
---|---|---|
Moonstone | 4 | 6 |
Patriot | 3 | 1 |
Ultron | 6 | 8 |
Brood | 3 | 2 |
Ant-Man | 1 | 1 |
Mystique | 3 | 0 |
Iron Man | 5 | 0 |
Mister Sinister | 2 | 2 |
Dazzler | 2 | 2 |
Squirrel Girl | 1 | 2 |
Mockingbird | 6 | 9 |
Blue Marvel | 5 | 3 |
For a more thrilling gameplay experience, Moonstone pairs excellently with Onslaught and The Living Tribunal. If you prioritize excitement over consistency, use Moonstone as your primary win condition with these cards: Onslaught, Living Tribunal, Mystique, Magik, Psylocke, Sera, Iron Man, Ravonna Renslayer, Captain America, Howard the Duck, and Iron Lad.
Card | Cost | Power |
---|---|---|
Moonstone | 4 | 6 |
Onslaught | 6 | 7 |
The Living Tribunal | 6 | 9 |
Mystique | 3 | 0 |
Ravonna Renslayer | 2 | 2 |
Iron Man | 5 | 0 |
Captain America | 3 | 3 |
Howard the Duck | 1 | 2 |
Magik | 3 | 2 |
Psylocke | 2 | 2 |
Sera | 5 | 4 |
Iron Lad | 4 | 6 |
Here’s the ideal play line:
In this setup, Psylocke and Sera serve as discount providers, allowing you to play key cards earlier. Magik extends the match, enabling the play of Onslaught, followed by The Living Tribunal. Meanwhile, Captain America and Iron Lad act as backup options if you don't draw the necessary cards in time.
Many players anticipated the trio of Moonstone-Onslaught-Tribunal would become a staple in the metagame after Moonstone's release, viewing it as her natural fit. However, few foresaw that she would have a formidable counter in this setup: Super Skrull.
Unfortunately for Moonstone players, she’s an easy target for Super Skrull. Since her release, many players have included Super Skrull in their decks to counter Moonstone effectively. Enchantress, Rogue, and Echo also serve as counters, making Moonstone quite vulnerable.
Moonstone's biggest weakness is that she absorbs the abilities of cards in her own lane. Unless you hide her behind cards like Invisible Woman, your opponent can easily neutralize that lane with Enchantress, Echo, or Rogue. Alternatively, they could play Super Skrull in another lane to dismantle your strategy.
Moonstone is worth your Spotlight Keys for several reasons: 1) Her robust ability will become even more valuable as more Ongoing cards that synergize with her are released; 2) She’s featured in a Spotlight Cache alongside two other Series Five cards, reducing the risk of unsuccessful pulls; and 3) She’s one of the most nostalgic new cards to join Marvel Snap. If you miss the days of pulling off wild combos that drastically boost the board, Moonstone is definitely a card worth acquiring.
