The Battle of Hulao Gate is the final stage in Chapter 2 of *Dynasty Warriors: Origins*, where your primary objective is to defeat Dong Zhuo. This mission is likely to be the most demanding you've encountered so far, requiring strategic planning and perseverance.

As the mission starts, focus on capturing the four enemy bases located in the bottom right of the map. After securing two of these bases, a cutscene will trigger, showing a mounted cavalry led by Zhang Liao charging towards your position. Continue your strategy without distraction; you'll naturally encounter and defeat this cavalry as you progress. Defeating Zhang Liao will reward you with the twin pike weapon, enhancing your arsenal.

Once all bases are under your control, you can launch an assault on Hulao Gate, initiating your first major confrontation with Dong Zhuo's forces. Amidst the chaos, prioritize protecting Cao Cao until he executes his Grand Tactic. This will weaken the enemy's defenses, allowing you to advance further towards the gate.

Lu Bu Appears

At this critical juncture, Dong Zhuo deploys Lu Bu to the frontline. It's crucial to avoid direct combat with Lu Bu, as he is overwhelmingly powerful and can easily defeat you. Instead, focus on eliminating enemy officers on the periphery to maintain your morale, which Lu Bu's presence significantly undermines.

Lu Bu will eventually move to attack your main base, targeting Yuan Shao. Resist the urge to chase him; a fundamental rule in *Dynasty Warriors* is to never pursue Lu Bu. Liu Bei and his forces will attempt to delay Lu Bu, buying you time to focus on defeating Dong Zhuo. This creates a time-sensitive scenario; you must be close to defeating Dong Zhuo by the time Liu Bei's forces retreat, or Lu Bu will end the mission by defeating Yuan Shao.

Go After Dong Zhuo

With Lu Bu distracted, quickly resupply with meat buns at any conquered base if needed, then return to the gate. While Cao Cao prepares for a charge, you should capture the northern and western bases. Once you have three squads ready and are fully healed, enter the closest commander's circle and launch your attack.

You'll face a massive army, with Dong Zhuo initiating his Grand Tactic of launching fireballs. To counter this, destroy the front two catapults. If available, activate Musou Rage to break through the enemy lines blocking the catapults. Clear the surrounding soldiers and officers to allow your forces to demolish the catapults, ending Dong Zhuo's tactic.

As you advance, Dong Zhuo will deploy another Grand Tactic. This time, you must defeat one of his officers to stop it. Take the right stairs to confront the officer, but be prepared for an ambush by Diaochan, who has sided with Dong Zhuo. If possible, duel Diaochan to avoid being overwhelmed by both her and the officer.

Once the second Grand Tactic is thwarted, the path to Dong Zhuo should be clear. With high morale, your forces can easily overpower his remaining troops. Even if Dian Wei initiates a Grand Tactic, it will further ease your path to victory. Avoid dueling Dong Zhuo directly; by this point, his forces will be significantly weakened, making a standard attack sufficient to defeat him.
