Rey Dau is the first dragon monster you'll encounter in Monster Hunter Wilds. This creature harnesses the power of lightning, rendering it immune to such attacks. However, it is vulnerable to other elements, particularly water and ice. Targeting the head is your best bet for dealing significant damage, boasting a 4-star weakness. The wings, with a 3-star weakness, are another viable target.
Avoid hitting the torso as it is quite resilient. If the head is difficult to reach, go for the tail instead. Attacking the legs is less effective due to their strong protection. For status ailments, you can use everything except Stun and Paralysis, as these won't work against a lightning-element dragon.
Use a Flash Pod
To quickly take down Rey Dau, employ a Flash Pod. This tool will temporarily stun the monster, providing a window to land critical hits. When Rey Dau unleashes its lightning attack, aim for its horns, which will be glowing bright red in Focus Mode, to inflict substantial damage.
Wear Element-Resistant Gear
If you find yourself struggling to stay alive, equip gear that enhances your resistance to elemental attacks. The Hope Armor set, with its Divine Blessing skill, reduces incoming damage and provides resistance to Lightning and Fire. Additionally, consider consuming a meal that boosts your elemental resistance.
For those who struggle with dodging, positioning yourself close to Rey Dau’s legs in Monster Hunter Wilds can be beneficial. The monster primarily attacks its front and rear, leaving fewer opportunities to hit you if you stay near its legs.
Pay Attention to the Environment
During the battle, Rey Dau will move across various locations. In the open plains, utilize Vine Traps found on a solitary tree to momentarily stun the beast. Be cautious when the dragon returns to its nest, as it follows up with a devastating lightning attack that can stun you. Avoid rushing your attacks here to prevent being zapped to death.

To capture it, weaken Rey Dau until it's near death, indicated by a skull icon next to its mini-map icon. Set up a Pitfall Trap, as Shock Traps won't work on a lightning dragon. Once trapped, swiftly administer a Tranquilizer to prevent its escape. You only have a few seconds, so be prepared.
