Medabots Survivor brings the classic role-playing franchise to the bullet heaven genre

If you're a fan of robot role-playing games, then Medabot Survivors might just catch your eye, introducing fans to a new bullet heaven action experience. However, there's a catch—it's currently available exclusively in Japan on both iOS and Android platforms. Set to launch on February 10th, this latest addition to the beloved Medabots franchise brings the excitement of mobile gaming to fans once again, but unfortunately, it's not accessible outside of Japan at the moment.

As reported by Gematsu, Medabots might ring a bell for those of us who grew up during the era when Pokémon dominated the scene, sparking a rush to bring other Japanese franchises with merchandising potential to the West. While Digimon managed to carve out its own niche (and some would argue, even surpass Pokémon), Medabots never quite achieved the same level of fame in the Western market.

In contrast, back in Japan, Medabots has enjoyed substantial success, becoming a major franchise. It's no surprise, then, that the next evolution for Medabots is the Survivors-like genre. Although this means that, for now, only a select few Medabots fans will be able to enjoy it, given its Japan-only release.

Medabot Survivors GameplaySurviving the Survivors While the term "Survivors-like" may be relatively new, the genre itself has been around much longer than the popular game Vampire Survivors. The release of Medabot Survivors is not only a treat for fans but also a fascinating case study as we observe the genre's expansion worldwide.

Having some insight into how things operate in Japan, I can assure you there are many excellent releases that might never make it to other markets. However, if Medabot Survivors proves to be a hit, there's hope that it might eventually find its way to international audiences.

In the meantime, if you're eager to explore games that you can play right now, take a look at our latest feature in Ahead of the Game, where Catherine Dellosa dives into the whimsical world of Cat Restaurant.
