Team Ninja's long-awaited Ninja Gaiden 4 is finally on the horizon, thanks to a collaborative effort between Team Ninja, Koei Tecmo, and PlatinumGames. Producer Fumihiko Yasuda revealed that the project faced initial hurdles due to a lack of a concrete concept. However, conversations between Koei Tecmo's Hisashi Koinuma, PlatinumGames' Atsushi Inaba, and Xbox's Phil Spencer ultimately led to the three companies uniting to develop the game.
Spencer confirmed discussions began as early as 2017, with the goal of creating a worthy sequel. PlatinumGames, known for its high-octane action titles like Bayonetta and NieR: Automata, proved to be the ideal partner to bring Team Ninja's vision to life.
The surprise announcement came alongside a re-release of Ninja Gaiden 2 Black, a remastered version for Xbox, PlayStation 5, and PC. Initial trailers showcase Ryu Hayabusa as the protagonist, promising a thrilling action-slasher experience. Gameplay footage hints at new mechanics, including innovative traversal using wires and rails, setting it apart from previous entries.
While DOOM: The Dark Ages dominated headlines at Developer_Direct, the revelation of Ninja Gaiden 4 was a significant event. The game is slated for release in Fall 2025.
