Outriders scrapped due to Square Enix miscommunication

People Can Fly, the Polish studio behind Outriders and Gears of War Judgment, has announced further job cuts following the cancellation of two projects: Project Gemini and Project Bifrost.
"Today we made the difficult decision to halt development on Project Gemini and Project Bifrost — official announcements have been released to the market," CEO Sebastian Wojciechowski stated in an official communication.
"Gemini's suspension results from the publisher failing to provide documentation for subsequent development milestones and lacking communication regarding the project's continuation."
"Bifrost was paused due to these factors combined with our financial analysis showing insufficient resources to complete production and release."
Wojciechowski added: "Consequently, we must restructure the studio and reduce team sizes – a painful but necessary decision. We sincerely regret this outcome and deeply appreciate everyone's contributions."
While the statement doesn't name specific publishers, People Can Fly's website confirms Square Enix partnered on Gemini, with Bifrost being self-published. Square Enix hasn't responded to requests for comment.
This follows the studio's cutting of 120 positions last year as it scaled back operations. Current projects include collaborations with Krafton (Project Echo), Sony (Project Delta), and Microsoft (Gears of War: E-Day).
The studio's latest release remains Bulletstorm VR, a virtual reality adaptation of the classic shooter for Meta Quest and PSVR 2 platforms.
