Phil Spencer Affirms Xbox's Support for Switch 2, Praises Nintendo Partnership

Following the announcement of the Nintendo Switch 2, it appears the collaboration between Nintendo and Xbox is set to continue seamlessly. Phil Spencer, Microsoft's head of gaming, recently reiterated his commitment to the Switch platform as a means to connect with audiences not typically engaged with Xbox.

In a recent interview with Variety, Spencer was questioned about potential projects for the Nintendo Switch 2. He emphasized that just as Xbox has supported the original Switch, they aim to extend that support to the Switch 2.

"Nintendo has been an excellent partner," Spencer remarked. "It provides us a unique opportunity to engage with players who don't use PCs or Xbox consoles. This allows us to expand our community and deepen engagement with our franchises, which is crucial for our ongoing investment in game development."

Play"I’m a firm believer in Nintendo's role in our industry and the importance of continuing to support them," Spencer added. "Their support for our franchises is a vital aspect of our future strategy."

Spencer has consistently expressed enthusiasm for the Nintendo Switch 2, praising Nintendo's innovative approach since the console's initial teaser. He also confirmed that Xbox intends to broaden the availability of its games across multiple platforms, including PlayStation, Steam, and Nintendo consoles.

When asked if the Switch 2's reveal prompted any urgency to unveil Xbox's upcoming console plans, Spencer remained unfazed.

"No. I think everyone in this industry should concentrate on nurturing their communities and player bases," Spencer stated. "I find inspiration in the work of other creators and platform holders, but I have confidence in our existing plans."

The Xbox head reaffirmed their commitment to making games accessible "on as many platforms as possible," including cloud, PC, and consoles. Titles like Pentiment and Obsidian's Grounded have already transitioned to Nintendo platforms, and it will be intriguing to see what Xbox brings to the Switch 2 upon its official launch.

The Nintendo Switch 2 is slated for an official debut on June 5, 2025. Pre-orders are yet to be available, but keep an eye on our Switch 2 pre-order hub page for updates on when they will be open.
