PlayStation Portal Enhances Cloud Streaming Beta with Gameplay Capture

May 24,2025 Author: Caleb

Sony is rolling out a new update for PlayStation Portal users who are using its Cloud Streaming Beta. This update brings significant enhancements to the user experience and general functionality of the remote play system's cloud capabilities, set to be implemented later today.

A key feature of this update is the ability to sort games within the Cloud Streaming Beta catalog. Users can now organize their games by Name, Release Date, or based on which titles were most recently added to PlayStation Plus, making it easier to navigate and find new games to play.

Another exciting addition is the ability to capture gameplay during a Cloud Streaming session. Players can utilize the familiar create menu options to access features like screenshots and video recording. According to the PlayStation blog, video clips can be recorded at up to 1920x1080 resolution and can last up to three minutes, allowing users to capture and share their best moments from the cloud.

PlayGameplay will now pause under certain conditions to enhance the user experience. When you open the PS Portal quick menu, enter rest mode using the power button, or if a system error message appears, the game will pause automatically. However, note that the rest mode pause is limited to 15 seconds; if the Portal remains in rest mode longer, the cloud streaming session will disconnect. Keep in mind, pause functionality is not supported in online multiplayer games.

Additional updates include a queue system for when the streaming server reaches capacity, notifications for inactivity, and new user feedback tools. Sony has committed to continuously enhancing the platform based on user input.

The Cloud Streaming Beta remains exclusive to PlayStation Plus Premium members, offering access to select PS5 games from the PS Plus Catalog via cloud streaming on the PS Portal. Last year's update transformed the Portal into more of a standalone cloud streaming device, and Sony's ongoing efforts suggest further improvements are on the horizon.

As cloud streaming becomes increasingly integral to the gaming landscape, it will be fascinating to watch Sony's Cloud Streaming Beta evolve in tandem with the PlayStation Portal. The ability to capture numerous screenshots while streaming adds a fun and engaging dimension to the experience.
