Pokemon TCG Pocket: Paralyzed, Explained (& All Cards with ‘Paralyze’ Ability)

Mar 05,2025 Author: Lucy

This guide explores the Paralyze condition in Pokémon TCG Pocket, detailing its mechanics, cures, and deck-building strategies.

What is Paralyzed in Pokémon TCG Pocket?

Paralyzed Condition

The Paralyzed condition immobilizes the opponent's Active Pokémon for one turn, preventing attacks and retreats. It automatically resolves at the start of the opponent's next turn (after their Checkup phase).

Paralyzed vs. Asleep

Both Paralyzed and Asleep prevent attacks and retreats. However, Paralyzed automatically resolves, while Asleep requires a coin flip or specific counter-strategies (like evolution or forced retreat) to cure.

Paralyzed in Pocket vs. Physical TCG

Unlike the physical TCG where cards like Full Heal can remove Paralysis, Pokémon TCG Pocket currently lacks direct counter-cards. The core mechanic—inability to attack or retreat for one turn—remains consistent.

Pokémon with Paralyze

Currently, only three Genetic Apex cards inflict Paralysis: Pincurchin, Elektross, and Articuno. Each uses a coin flip, making it a chance-based effect rather than a reliable deck foundation.

Curing Paralysis

Curing Paralysis

Four methods cure Paralysis:

  1. Waiting: The condition automatically ends at the start of your next turn.
  2. Evolution: Evolving the Paralyzed Pokémon immediately removes the condition.
  3. Retreat: Retreating the Pokémon removes the condition (bench Pokémon cannot have Special Conditions).
  4. Support Cards: Currently, only Koga (effective only on Weezing or Muk) offers a Support card counter.

Best Paralyze Deck

Paralyze Deck Example

Paralysis alone isn't a strong deck archetype. Combining it with Asleep is more effective. An Articuno & Frosmoth deck, utilizing Articuno, Frosmoth, and Wigglytuff ex, offers a strong Paralyze/Asleep strategy.

Sample Paralyze/Asleep Deck List

Card Quantity
Wigglypuff ex 2
Jigglypuff 2
Snom 2
Frosmoth 2
Articuno 2
Misty 2
Sabrina 2
X Speed 2
Professor's Research 2
Poke Ball 2

This deck combines the chance-based paralysis with the sleep condition for a more consistent strategy. Remember that the effectiveness of this strategy relies heavily on successful coin flips.
