Today, Krafton unveiled the roadmap for PUBG in 2025, which includes significant updates like a shift to Unreal Engine 5, upgrades for current-gen consoles, and more high-profile collaborations. While this roadmap is focused on PUBG itself, it's noteworthy for mobile players because several updates have already made their way to the mobile version, including the new map, Rondo.
One aspect of the roadmap that particularly caught our attention is the mention of a "unified experience" across modes in PUBG. Although this currently refers to the desktop and console versions, it's not a leap to think that a broader unification might be in the works. This could potentially mean crossplay-compatible modes or even a complete merging of the mobile and PC/console experiences in the future.
Enter the battlegroundsThe roadmap also emphasizes a stronger push towards user-generated content (UGC), a trend we've seen in PUBG Mobile with the World of Wonder mode. Krafton's plans to launch a UGC project that allows content sharing among players echo the successful model used by competitors like Fortnite. This focus on UGC suggests a future where mobile and other platforms could see more integrated content creation and sharing.
The possibility of a fusion between PUBG and PUBG Mobile is intriguing but speculative at this point. It's clear, however, that the roadmap sets a bold direction for PUBG's evolution, and we can expect some of these developments to influence PUBG Mobile in 2025.
A significant challenge to watch will be the transition to Unreal Engine 5. If PUBG adopts this new engine, PUBG Mobile would likely need to follow, which could present both opportunities and hurdles for the mobile gaming experience.
