This month celebrates the 20th anniversary of Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith, the final chapter of the Star Wars Prequel Trilogy. Released on May 19, 2005, it marked the last Star Wars film directed by George Lucas before he sold Lucasfilm to Disney in 2012.
Viewers anticipated Anakin Skywalker’s transformation into Darth Vader in Revenge of the Sith, but many wondered about the fate of the other Jedi. The film introduced Order 66, a sinister element of Palpatine’s scheme, where Clone Troopers, once allies of the Jedi during the Clone Wars, turned and attacked them. With thousands of Jedi active, it was inevitable that some would evade Palpatine’s grasp—beyond those known to survive into the Original Trilogy.
From the handful of Order 66 survivors featured in canon Star Wars stories, we’ve ranked the top 10 who left a significant mark. Some survived only briefly, while others endured far longer, with a few whose fates remain a mystery. Each of these Jedi lived to fight another day after Palpatine issued the command, “Execute Order 66.”
Our criteria: Characters must have been part of the Jedi Order before Order 66, whether as a Padawan, Jedi Knight, Jedi Master, or even a young Jedi Initiate. It also omits young Force-wielders like Jod Na Nawood, who were never formally trained by the Jedi Order or visited the Jedi Temple, despite receiving some Jedi instruction.
We debated including Asajj Ventress. She trained under Jedi Ky Narec, who called her his Padawan, for over 20 years on Rattatak. However, she never visited Coruscant, met the Jedi Council, or interacted with other Jedi before Narec’s death. Her later allegiance to the Dark Side as Dooku’s apprentice further clouds her Jedi status. Thus, she earns an honorable mention. Now, let’s move to…
