Marvel Snap's avian additions are few and far between, limited to Cosmo, Groose, Zabu, and Hit Monkey—until now. Redwing, Falcon's loyal companion, joins the roster as part of the Brave New World season.
Redwing's Mechanics in Marvel Snap
Redwing is a 3-cost, 4-power card with a unique ability: The first time it moves, it adds a card from your hand to its previous location.
However, there are limitations: Redwing's ability is a one-time use, unaffected by cards like Symbiote Spider-Man or attempts to replay it. Precise card targeting with Redwing proves challenging. Move decks often utilize low-cost cards (like Iron Fist) that are undesirable targets, while Scream decks typically manipulate opponent's cards, not your own.
Despite these limitations, affordable move options exist for lower Collection Level players, such as Madame Web or Cloak. Redwing offers the potential for surprising victories by strategically deploying powerful cards like Galactus early or drawing a high-value card such as The Infinaut.
Top Redwing Decks on Day One
Ares and Surtur dominated the previous season, returning in a revised Scream-based strategy incorporating Aero and Heimdall. Redwing surprisingly integrates well, although playing Surtur on turn 3 remains the priority. This deck includes:
Hydra Bob, Scream, Kraven, Captain America, Redwing, Polaris, Surtur, Ares, Cull Obsidian, Aero, Heimdall, Magneto. (Note: This deck is expensive, featuring multiple Series 5 cards.)
The strategy centers on turn 3 Surtur deployment, followed by high-power cards to boost Surtur's power. Scream provides an alternative win condition by power manipulation. Polaris, Aero, and Magneto offer card movement, while Redwing can be moved into Heimdall to enhance Surtur and draw a powerful card.
Another potential Redwing inclusion is a Madame Web deck, given Dagger's nerf and the limited viability of move-based strategies. Madame Web's Ongoing ability complements current Ongoing-focused decks, providing a possible niche for Redwing. A sample deck:
Ant-Man, Madame Web, Psylocke, Sam Wilson, Captain America, Luke Cage, Captain America, Redwing, Doom 2099, Iron Lad, Blue Marvel, Doctor Doom, Spectrum. (This deck contains two Series 5 cards: Madame Web and Doom 2099.)
This is primarily a Doom 2099 Ongoing deck, aiming for rapid power distribution. Madame Web assists in optimizing Doom 2099's effect, and provides another way to move Sam Wilson's shield. Redwing's activation relies solely on Madame Web's ability. The late-game strategy involves Doctor Doom or Spectrum for power distribution or a power surge.
Is Redwing Worth Investing In?
Currently, no. Redwing's power level is underwhelming, and its archetype is similarly underpowered. Saving resources for future cards is advisable unless significant buffs are implemented.
