Mobile gaming's rapid innovation is truly remarkable, and Roia perfectly exemplifies this. This ingenious puzzle-adventure, from the indie studio Emoak (creators of Paper Climb, Machinaero, and the award-winning Lyxo), takes an unexpected approach.
The core concept of Roia is surprisingly simple: guide a river from mountaintop to sea. Using your finger, you manipulate the landscape, gently shepherding the cascading water.
Emoak's press release reveals a deeply personal connection for designer Tobias Sturn. His childhood memories of playing in a creek with his grandfather heavily influenced the game's creation. Sadly, Sturn's grandfather passed away during development, making Roia a touching tribute.
Roia defies easy categorization. While challenges exist, the game's true essence is relaxation. Your journey unfolds across beautifully crafted environments—forests, meadows, charming villages—guided by a helpful white bird.
The game's aesthetic echoes the elegant simplicity of Monument Valley. Complementing the visuals is a captivating soundtrack composed by Johannes Johannson, also known for his work on Emoak's Lyxo.
Roia is available now on the Google Play Store and App Store for $2.99.
