To achieve the best ending in *Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2*, one of the critical tasks you need to complete is saving Sam. Knowing where to find Sam during the main quest "Reckoning" is essential for those aiming for perfection.
Rescuing Sam During "Reckoning"
As you approach the end of the main quest line, you discover that Sam is being held captive at Praguer's Camp, captured by Brabant. Your opportunity to save him arises during the "Reckoning" quest. Infiltrating the camp can be done through stealth or by opting for a more direct approach with violence.
To move freely within the camp without arousing suspicion, you'll need a guard's outfit. You can acquire one by either killing a guard and hiding their body or by looting one from the numerous chests scattered throughout the camp. Once you have the outfit equipped, you can explore the camp in search of Sam without being questioned.

Access the barn by using the ladder on its side and dropping down inside, where you will confront Brabant. At this juncture, you have crucial decisions to make: you can either kill or spare Brabant. Opting to spare him contributes to achieving the best ending, but the choice is ultimately yours.
When to Rescue Sam
After freeing Sam, it's not immediately time to escort him out of the camp. Sam will inform you about von Aulitz, who is also present in the camp. It's advisable to deal with von Aulitz first, then secure a horse, and finally return to Sam to help him escape. Sam will be safe waiting for a short while, and this sequence makes the tasks more manageable, especially since you'll need to carry him to the horse.
Von Aulitz is found in the main part of the camp. With the guard outfit, the guards at his door will allow you entry without issue. Upon finding von Aulitz, who is already dying, he will request a dignified death. Granting his wish is the most honorable option. Alternatively, you can kill him brutally or leave him to suffer a slow death. Interestingly, choosing to leave him to die actually supports achieving the best ending.
Your final steps involve retrieving Sam from the barn where you left him. If a guard questions your actions, simply explain that you're moving a body, which will dispel any suspicion. Proceed to the camp gates, exit, and turn right to navigate around the camp's perimeter.
