Sigourney Weaver's involvement in The Mandalorian & Grogu panel at Star Wars Celebration 2025 was a highlight, and IGN had the privilege of discussing her new role, her initial unfamiliarity with the series, her affection for Grogu, and even a playful comparison between Grogu and a Xenomorph.
The Mandalorian & Grogu is slated for a theatrical release on May 22, 2026. This interview aims to ease the anticipation and provide insights into one of the newest additions to the Star Wars universe.

IGN: Sigourney, thank you for joining us! Your character appeared in a Rebel pilot uniform during the panel. Can you share more about her?
Sigourney Weaver: She's indeed a Rebel pilot, now working to safeguard the New Republic. She's stationed in the Outer Rim, dealing with remnants of the Empire, and relies on allies like the Mandalorian and his companion.
IGN: Your affection for Grogu was a key factor in accepting this role. What was it like working with him?
Weaver: Grogu is incredibly mischievous, which is no surprise. Despite the presence of multiple puppeteers, my focus was always on Grogu himself. He felt very real to me.
IGN: You've worked with various alien species, from Xenomorphs to Na'vi. How does working with Grogu compare?
Weaver: Grogu is undoubtedly the cutest. While Xenomorphs and other creatures are on one end of the spectrum, Grogu is on the other—purely adorable, or as the Japanese say, Kawaii!
**IGN:** You mentioned not having watched *The Mandalorian* before joining the project. What was your experience like catching up on the series?
Weaver: I was fortunate that Jon Favreau didn't pressure me to watch it beforehand. I was excited to work with him on a Star Wars project. From the first episode, I found the concept charming—a classic Western with unique twists. It was a great way to re-enter the Star Wars universe, which can be confusing with its various projects. The story of Din Djarin and Grogu, along with compelling villains like Werner Herzog, kept me engaged throughout.
IGN: In the footage we saw, you and Grogu shared a scene where he used his Force powers to try to steal your snacks. Can you tell us more about that?
Weaver: Yes, he was after my little bowl of snacks. I had to be quite firm to get them back from him!
IGN: Do you witness Grogu's Force powers in action throughout the movie?
Weaver: Whenever I'm with him, I see him using his powers, especially when he's relaxed at our base. It's clear he's transitioning from a learner to a skilled apprentice, which is a significant development from the series.
IGN: Reflecting on your journey with Star Wars, from the original films to now, do you have a favorite movie in the series?
Weaver:Rogue One stands out for me. I loved Felicity Jones's character and felt a connection to the Rebellion. Revisiting the older films was like returning to my childhood, and it's amazing how Star Wars continues to evolve and welcome everyone back.
IGN: Finally, who do you think is more powerful—Grogu or a Xenomorph?
Weaver: I'd have to say a Xenomorph. They're driven by an instinct to dominate and destroy, whereas Grogu, like Yoda, is wise and on the side of good. Plus, Grogu is just too cute to be truly threatening!
IGN: And if Grogu had stayed with Werner Herzog, do you think he might have turned out differently?
Weaver: Who knows? With someone like Herzog, Grogu's path could have taken a darker turn.
