Unveiling the New Trailer

The March 13, 2025 Silent Hill Transmission offered fans a fresh look at Silent Hill f, including a captivating new trailer. Unlike its predecessors, Silent Hill f transports players to 1960s Japan.

The game's narrative follows Shimizu Hinako, an ordinary teenager whose life takes a terrifying turn when her town is enveloped in a mysterious fog, undergoing a horrific transformation. Hinako must navigate this unrecognizable landscape, solving puzzles, battling strange creatures, and ultimately confronting a profound and agonizing choice to survive. This is a story of a beautiful, yet terrifying decision.

Silent Hill f is set in the fictional Japanese town of Ebisugaoka, inspired by the real-life town of Kanayama in Gifu Prefecture. The developers meticulously recreated Ebisugaoka down to its intricate alleyways, using photographs, recorded soundscapes of daily life, and historical materials to accurately capture the atmosphere of the 1960s.

Finding Beauty in Terror

According to series producer Motoi Okamoto, the core concept behind Silent Hill f is to "find the beauty in terror." While retaining the series' signature psychological horror, the team aimed to explore the unique nuances of a Japanese setting and its associated themes.

Okamoto explains, "A key element of Japanese horror is the unsettling nature of excessive beauty and perfection. Players will experience this world through the eyes of a young girl grappling with a choice that is both beautiful and terrifying."

A Standalone Silent Hill Experience

Okamoto emphasizes that Silent Hill f is a self-contained narrative, accessible to newcomers to the series. However, longtime fans can still anticipate familiar elements and subtle easter eggs. The game's writer, Ryukishi07, renowned for his psychological Japanese horror visual novels, brings his distinct style to this new Silent Hill entry.

Ryukishi07, a dedicated fan of the Silent Hill franchise, has played every game in the series. He describes the development process as a return to the series' roots, while simultaneously presenting new challenges. A key hurdle was creating a truly authentic Silent Hill experience outside of the iconic titular town.

He states, "From a creator's perspective, I believe we've successfully crafted a genuine Silent Hill game. However, we're eager to hear the opinions of longtime fans and see if they agree."

Silent Hill f is now available to wishlist on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. A specific release date has yet to be announced. For the latest updates on Silent Hill f, check out our related article!
