SoMoGa Inc. has revitalized the classic 16-bit RPG, Vay, releasing a revamped version on Android, iOS, and Steam. This updated edition boasts slick new visuals, a streamlined user interface, and welcome controller support, breathing new life into the original 1993 Sega CD release. Initially launched in Japan by Hertz and later localized for the US by Working Designs, Vay received an iOS re-release in 2008 by SoMoGa, and now returns with even more enhancements.
What's New in Revamped Vay?
The revamped Vay offers over 100 unique enemies and a dozen challenging boss encounters across 90 diverse areas. A standout feature is the adjustable difficulty, allowing players to tailor the experience to their skill level. The addition of an auto-save function provides peace of mind, and Bluetooth controller support offers flexible gameplay options. Players can acquire new gear and items, while characters level up, learning powerful new spells. An AI system enables autonomous character combat, adding another layer of strategic depth.
What's the Story?
Set in a distant galaxy scarred by a millennium-long interstellar war, Vay unfolds on a technologically primitive planet after a colossal, malfunctioning war machine crashes, causing widespread devastation. The player embarks on a quest to rescue their kidnapped wife, a journey that could potentially save the entire world. Attacked on their wedding day, the protagonist sets out on an epic adventure to confront the destructive war machines.
Vay's captivating narrative blends nostalgia with fresh elements. Staying true to its JRPG roots, characters gain experience and gold through random encounters. The game features nearly ten minutes of animated cutscenes with both English and Japanese audio options.
