Sony has announced the formation of a new PlayStation studio, teamLFG, which originated from Bungie, the developer behind Destiny and Marathon. Hermen Hulst, CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment’s Studio Business Group, expressed excitement about teamLFG's ambitious incubation project.
The name teamLFG, which stands for 'Looking For Group,' hints at a focus on social gaming. Their debut game is described as a team-based action game that blends elements from fighting games, platformers, MOBAs, life sims, and "frog-type games." This game will be set in a lighthearted, comedic world within a new, mythic, science-fantasy universe.

teamLFG emphasizes creating games that foster friendship, community, and a sense of belonging. They aim to create an environment where players are excited to log in and find their teammates already online, celebrating memorable moments and building a community through shared experiences.
The studio plans to develop immersive multiplayer worlds that players can learn, play, and master over countless hours. They intend to involve their community in the development process through early access playtests, remaining adaptable to player feedback both before and after launch to continually enhance the game and its community.
teamLFG's project was spun out of Bungie following significant layoffs in 2023 and 2024, which affected nearly 320 employees. Amidst these changes, Bungie has also revealed plans for the extraction shooter Marathon and the future roadmap for Destiny 2, while canceling a Destiny spinoff called Payback and confirming no plans for Destiny 3.
