Next month, PlayStation Plus will see the departure of 22 games from its library, including high-profile titles like Grand Theft Auto 5, Payday 2: Crimewave Edition, and the last playable versions of first-party titles Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2. This significant update comes into effect on May 20, 2025.
PlayStation Plus is a comprehensive online gaming service offered for PlayStation platforms, providing members with a range of benefits such as free monthly games, limited-time trials, online multiplayer access, and exclusive member discounts. Additionally, Extra and Premium members enjoy access to a vast catalog of current and classic games.
As reported by Push Square, the removal of these 22 games includes two notable first-party Sony PS3 titles, Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2, which will no longer be available in the PS Plus Premium library. This marks a significant change, especially since these games are no longer available for purchase on the PS Store, making PS Plus Premium the only way to access them on modern consoles without a working PS3.

The Resistance series, developed by Insomniac Games, known for their work on the Ratchet and Clank series, offers an alternate history first-person shooter experience. The series includes three PS3 titles, with Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2 being removed less than a year after their addition to the PS Plus library at the end of 2024. While Resistance 3 and Resistance: Retribution will remain available, the removal of the first two games marks a significant loss for fans of the series.
Sony's decision to remove first-party games from PS Plus, while not common, has precedent. A notable example is the unexpected removal of both Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon: Forbidden West from the service in August 2024. However, unlike the Horizon games, which could still be purchased after their removal, Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2 will no longer be accessible on modern consoles once removed.
Adding to the list of departing titles, InFamous: Second Son, another first-party PS4 game, will also leave PS Plus. The Resistance series, dormant for some time, saw an attempt to revive it with Resistance 4, but as revealed by Insomniac's founder Ted Price in February, the project did not receive the necessary approval to proceed.
