Star Wars Outlaws' Sales Predicted to Fall Off by Industry Analyst

Star Wars Outlaws was poised to be a game-changer for Ubisoft, a major release the company hoped would bolster its financial standing. Despite receiving positive feedback from critics, the game's sales have been disappointing, leading to a drop in Ubisoft's share price on September 3.

Ubisoft had high expectations for Star Wars Outlaws, along with its upcoming blockbuster Assassin’s Creed Shadows (AC Shadows), viewing them as key "value drivers" for long-term growth. In its first-quarter 2024-25 sales report, Ubisoft emphasized its strategy to leverage these titles to improve its financial outlook.

In the Q1 2024-25 sales report, Ubisoft stated its commitment to successfully launching Star Wars Outlaws and Assassin’s Creed Shadows, aiming to establish them as enduring value drivers while continuing to transform the organization. The company also reported a 15% increase in session days across consoles and PC, primarily driven by Games-as-a-Service, with monthly active users (MAUs) reaching 38 million, a 7% year-on-year increase.

Sales for Star Wars Outlaws have been described as "sluggish." According to a Reuters report, J.P. Morgan analyst Daniel Kerven noted that the game has "struggled to meet our sales expectations despite positive critical reviews." Kerven revised his sales forecast for Star Wars Outlaws from 7.5 million units to 5.5 million units by March 2025.

Star Wars Outlaws' Sales Predicted to Fall Off by Industry Analyst

Following the release of Star Wars Outlaws on August 30, Ubisoft’s shares fell for two consecutive days on September 3, dropping 5.1% on Monday and another 2.4% by Tuesday morning, according to reports. This decline brought the company's share price to its lowest level since 2015, contributing to an over 30% drop since the beginning of the year.

Despite generally favorable critic reviews, Star Wars Outlaws has not resonated well with players, currently holding a user score of just 4.5 out of 10 on Metacritic. Game8 has rated Star Wars Outlaws at 90/100, praising it as "an exceptional game that does justice to the Star Wars franchise."
