"Ultimate Engine Tweaks Mod Boosts Oblivion's PC Performance"

May 17,2025 Author: Anthony

If you're a fan of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered on PC, you've likely encountered several performance issues. According to the tech experts at Digital Foundry, Oblivion Remastered is plagued by severe performance problems. Video producer Alex Battaglia has labeled it as "perhaps one of the worst-running games I've ever tested for Digital Foundry."

"Even if you're running the most powerful hardware available, the stuttering is egregious, significantly detracting from the overall gaming experience. It's baffling how this was deemed acceptable for release," Battaglia remarked. He further noted that the game is unusually resource-intensive, suggesting that players may need to lower settings just to maintain a decent average frame rate, despite enduring persistent stuttering.

PlayGiven these issues, it's not surprising that the most popular mod for Oblivion Remastered on Nexus Mods is P40L0’s 'Ultimate Engine Tweaks (Anti-Stutters - Lower Latency - No Film Grain - No Chromatic Aberration - Lossless),' which has seen an astonishing 386,604 downloads in less than a week.

Here's how P40L0 describes the mod:

"This mod offers definitive 'Engine.ini' changes aimed at eliminating most stutters, enhancing performance and stability, reducing input latency, and improving visual clarity, all without compromising the game's visuals."

P40L0 elaborated, "After extensive testing with UE5, I've compiled these custom 'Engine.ini' tweaks to optimize CPU, GPU, RAM, and SSD performance. My goal was to remove as much stuttering as possible, boost performance, decrease input latency, and enhance picture quality by eliminating Film Grain and Chromatic Aberration, refining DLSS/FSR upscaling, and more, all without introducing any visual loss, glitches, or crashes."

Feedback from users who have downloaded the mod has been overwhelmingly positive. "Stutter be gone! Simply amazing, thanks!" exclaimed chubbyd07. "This .ini is a miracle. From 15-20 fps outside the prison to 65-70 stable. Running on 3600XT and a 2060 with 20GB of RAM," yeeto51 added. "Uhm, what the hell! I went from 60fps on High Preset around Waynon Priory to 90-110fps on the same location. Wizardry!!" said BabaSmith.

Despite its PC version's issues, Oblivion Remastered remains incredibly popular, boasting an impressive peak concurrent player count on Steam and over 4 million players across all platforms. On Steam, the game enjoys a 'very positive' user review rating.

However, a recent hotfix released on April 25 has caused issues for Microsoft Store players, affecting UI settings for graphics, particularly upscaling and anti-aliasing options. At the time of writing, players using the Microsoft Store version (including those on Game Pass for PC) are unable to adjust these settings due to a glitch in the settings UI. Bethesda is actively working on a solution.
