SteamWorld Heist 2, the highly anticipated sequel to the acclaimed 2015 tactical shooter, will not be launching on Xbox Game Pass despite earlier announcements. This clarification comes directly from Fortyseven, the game's PR team, who stated that the Game Pass logo's appearance in the initial trailer was an unintentional oversight. Consequently, all previous social media posts promoting the game's inclusion in the service have been removed.
The strategic, 2D robot-shooting action of SteamWorld Heist 2 will still arrive on August 8th for PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. This follows a similar incident with Shin Megami Tensei 5: Vengeance, where a Game Pass listing was attributed to a template error.
Although this is undoubtedly disappointing for Xbox Game Pass subscribers hoping to play SteamWorld Heist 2, the service already boasts a strong SteamWorld presence, including the recently added SteamWorld Dig and SteamWorld Dig 2, along with last year's day-one release of SteamWorld Build. Furthermore, Xbox Game Pass subscribers can look forward to a robust July lineup of six day-one titles, offering diverse gaming experiences to compensate for the absence of SteamWorld Heist 2. These include Flock and Magical Delicacy (July 16th), Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn and Dungeons of Hinterberg (July 18th), Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess (July 19th), and the much-anticipated Frostpunk 2 (July 25th).
