A Bloomberg report has revealed that Warner Bros. canceled an unannounced paid DLC for Hogwarts Legacy. The planned story expansion was set to launch this year alongside a "Definitive Edition" of the game. However, Warner Bros. reportedly scrapped the DLC due to concerns that the content did not justify the proposed price, according to Bloomberg's sources. The company declined to comment on the matter when approached by Bloomberg.
This decision comes amidst Warner Bros.' ongoing efforts to restructure its gaming division amid financial challenges. Earlier this year, the company canceled its planned Wonder Woman game and shut down the studio behind it, Monolith Productions, as well as WB San Diego and the MultiVersus studio, Player First Games. Additionally, Warner Bros. laid off employees at Rocksteady in September of the previous year.
Despite these setbacks, Warner Bros. continues to emphasize the importance of Hogwarts Legacy and the Harry Potter franchise. The company has repeatedly stated that the game and its universe are among its top assets, with a sequel being "one of the biggest priorities." This focus aligns with their strategy to concentrate on fewer, but larger, franchises. The original Hogwarts Legacy game has sold over 30 million copies, underscoring its significant market impact.
