Atelier Resleriana: The Red Alchemist & White Guardian - A Gacha-Free Experience

Atelier Resleriana Won't Have Gacha

The upcoming Atelier Resleriana: The Red Alchemist & White Guardian will deviate from its mobile predecessor by abandoning the gacha system, Koei Tecmo Europe announced on Twitter (X) on November 26, 2024. This is a significant departure for the series, promising a different gameplay experience.

No More Gacha Walls

Unlike its mobile counterpart, Atelier Resleriana: Forgotten Alchemy and the Polar Night Liberator, this new title will not require players to grind or spend money to progress. The absence of a gacha system means players won't need to purchase in-game currency to unlock characters or powerful items.

Furthermore, the game will be fully playable offline, eliminating the need to interact with the mobile version. The official website confirms a new story and protagonists within the familiar world of Lantarna.

Launching on PS5, PS4, Switch, and Steam in 2025, the game's price and exact release date are yet to be revealed.

A Look Back at the Mobile Gacha

Atelier Resleriana Won't Have Gacha

Atelier Resleriana: Forgotten Alchemy and the Polar Night Liberator, the foundation for the upcoming title, utilized a gacha system. While retaining core Atelier elements like synthesis and turn-based combat, it integrated a gacha mechanic for character strengthening and unlocking. This system, using a "spark" mechanic to earn medals for characters or Memoria (illustration cards), proved controversial among some players, particularly on Steam, despite positive mobile reviews.

The mobile game, released in January 2024 on Steam, Android, and iOS, received mixed reviews on Steam, contrasted by higher ratings on Google Play (4.2/5) and the App Store (4.6/5). The cost of the gacha system was a key point of contention for some Steam users. This new console and PC release aims to address this criticism by removing the gacha entirely, promising a more traditional Atelier experience.
