Baldur’s Gate 3 Patch 8 Out Now!
Steam Player Count Goes Up After Patch 8 Release
Baldur’s Gate 3 (BG3) has finally launched its eagerly awaited final patch, marking the end of its remarkable journey. On April 15, 2025, Larian Studios released BG3’s Patch 8, the last major update for the game. The significance of this final update has led to a noticeable increase in player count, pushing BG3 just outside Steam’s top 10 most played games. Prior to the patch, the game had around 60,000 concurrent players, which has now surged to over 169,000.
Larian Studios CEO Swen Vincke celebrated the player surge on Twitter (X) on April 22, highlighting the thriving mod support as a key factor. This support allows them to shift focus to their "next big thing." It was previously reported that Larian Studios will be moving away from the Dungeons and Dragons (D&D) Universe to explore new creative ventures.
As a result, D&D owner Wizards of the Coast and Hasbro will continue the Baldur’s Gate franchise without Larian Studios. They are currently in discussions with other studios to potentially develop a Baldur’s Gate 4.
12 New Subclasses, Photo Mode, and More!

The final patch, first announced in November 2024 via a Steam blog post, has been meticulously crafted. Patch 8 introduces 12 new subclasses, a photo mode, cross-play, and a host of other features. A comprehensive breakdown of the patch's contents is available on BG3’s official website. Compared to the November 2024 post, this update includes an extensive list of bug fixes and combat balance adjustments, ensuring BG3 concludes on a high note.
Larian Studios has gone above and beyond to enhance BG3, evident in the numerous fixes and updates included in this final version. Although this marks their last major patch, Larian remains committed to supporting the modding community.
