In 2024, no film sparked as much debate and discussion as Francis Ford Coppola's *Megalopolis*. This bold, unique, and to some, bizarre epic became the center of attention right after its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival last year, drawing both praise and criticism throughout the year. Now, the visionary filmmaker is set to expand the universe of *Megalopolis* into another medium, as it will soon be released as a graphic novel.
Titled *Francis Ford Coppola’s Megalopolis: An Original Graphic Novel*, this reinterpretation will be published by Abrams ComicArts in October, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter. The graphic novel will be penned by Chris Ryall, renowned for his adaptations of works by Stephen King, Harlan Ellison, and Clive Barker. The illustrations will be brought to life by Jacob Phillips, known for his work on *Newburn* and *That Texas Blood*.
“I was pleased to entrust the idea of a graphic novel to the capable hands of Chris Ryall, with the vision that, while inspired by my film *Megalopolis*, it wouldn’t be confined by it. I hoped the graphic novel would take on its own life, with its own artists and writers, becoming a sibling to the film rather than just a reflection,” Coppola stated to the outlet. “That’s exactly what Chris, Jacob Phillips, and the team at Abrams ComicArts have achieved. It reaffirms my belief that art is boundless, always offering parallel expressions and enriching the experiences of our patrons, audiences, and readers.”
*Megalopolis* follows the journey of a forward-thinking architect, portrayed by Adam Driver, who is driven by the destiny to construct a utopian city. However, his ambitious plans to transform New Rome into Megalopolis clash with the city’s mayor, played by Giancarlo Esposito, who is determined to thwart his vision. This narrative unfolds as a modern-day Roman fable.
While the film is not currently available for streaming, it can be rented or purchased at various movie platforms.
