Nearly three decades after its initial release, Paul W.S. Anderson's cult classic, *Event Horizon*, is expanding its universe with a prequel comic series. IDW Publishing has announced *Event Horizon: Dark Descent*, a gripping five-issue comic that delves into the chilling events preceding the film and uncovers the mysterious fate of the original crew of the Event Horizon ship.

Penned by the acclaimed writer Christian Ward, known for his work on *Batman: City of Madness*, and illustrated by Tristan Jones of *Aliens: Defiance* fame, *Dark Descent* promises to be a visually stunning and narratively rich addition to the franchise. The series is further enhanced by Pip Martin's coloring work, seen in *That Texas Blood*, and features striking cover art by Ward, Jeffrey Alan Love, Martin Simmonds, and Joshua Hixson.

IDW describes *Event Horizon: Dark Descent* as embracing the hard-R rating of the original film, set to launch readers into a terrifying journey starting in August. The story is designed to be accessible to new readers while providing deep lore for existing fans, focusing on the harrowing final moments of Captain Kilpack and the first crew. As they navigate through a nightmarish realm, they encounter demonic forces led by Paimon, the eyeless King of Hell, who unleashes unimaginable agony and evil upon them.

Christian Ward expressed his excitement about the project, stating, "It's a huge privilege to be handed the keys of such a beloved film, one I take very seriously and I have some extremely exciting things up my sleeve. Big gory swings will be happening. You'll never see the film in the same light again." He further added, "I think what Christian's laying out and adding to the lore is going to surprise people. It's certainly given me a lot of gnarly, visceral stuff to chew on visually, which is always fun and knowing that this is being done directly in collaboration with the team behind the film certainly helps lock things in as something fans of the film will want to explore with us."

Play*Event Horizon: Dark Descent #1* is scheduled for release on August 20, 2025.
