Bob Gale, co-creator of the iconic science fiction franchise "Back to the Future," has a blunt message for fans eager for a revival of the series: "F**k you." In a candid interview with Yahoo, Gale, who alongside Robert Zemeckis wrote and produced all three films, firmly squashed any hopes of a canonical continuation of the franchise.
During a backstage chat at the Saturn Awards, Gale addressed the recurring question from fans about a potential "Back to the Future 4." His response was unequivocal: "And we say, ‘F**k you.'" This sentiment underscores a staunch refusal to revisit the beloved series, despite the film industry's current trend of reboots and sequels, such as the poorly received "The Matrix Resurrections" and "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny."
The original "Back to the Future" film, released in 1985, follows high school student Marty McFly as he is accidentally sent back in time by the eccentric scientist Doc Brown. While it became one of the most iconic sci-fi films ever, its sequels, released in 1989 and 1990, did not garner the same acclaim.
Despite the franchise's absence from the big screen for over three decades, its legacy endures. It has influenced pop culture and even spawned a Broadway musical. Gale has also revealed plans for a stage production on Royal Caribbean Cruises and mentioned his collaboration with Michael J. Fox, the actor who played Marty McFly, on a book about Fox's experiences.
