Earlier this week, George R.R. Martin delighted fans with a new update on his blog, though it wasn't about the long-awaited *The Winds of Winter*. Instead, he unveiled the cover for the upcoming illustrated edition of *A Feast for Crows*, marking it as the fourth book in the *A Song of Ice and Fire* series to receive this special treatment. The artwork for this edition will be crafted by Jeffrey R. McDonald.
*A Feast for Crows: The Illustrated Edition* is slated for release on November 4, 2025. You can pre-order this stunning new edition from leading online retailers such as Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and Target.

This announcement is fantastic news for collectors of the illustrated editions. It's been five years since the release of the last illustrated edition, *A Storm of Swords*, in November 2020. The new edition of *A Feast for Crows* will not only feature captivating illustrations but also include a foreword by Joe Abercrombie. Martin mentioned on his blog that some of the interior illustrations will be shared later this spring, giving fans a sneak peek before the book's release. If you're a fan of the *Game of Thrones* series and are looking to start collecting, the first three illustrated editions are already available.

What About The Winds of Winter?
For those eagerly awaiting *The Winds of Winter*, the wait might continue for some time. George R.R. Martin's last update on this book was in a December 2024 interview, where he expressed uncertainty about finishing it within his lifetime. This follows his November 2023 statement that he had already written 1,100 pages. While the absence of a release date is disappointing after nearly 14 years of anticipation, there remains hope that the series will be completed by someone. With the fourth illustrated edition now on its way, it seems likely that the first five special editions will be completed before *The Winds of Winter* sees the light of day.
