With over a decade of consistent weapon options, the Monster Hunter series might benefit from a fresh weapon type. In a February 16, 2025 interview with PCGamesN, Monster Hunter Wilds Director Yuya Tokuda discussed the potential addition of a new weapon.

Monster Hunter Wilds offers 14 weapon types, a selection unchanged since Monster Hunter 4 and the introduction of the Insect Glaive. While Tokuda expressed interest in creating a new weapon, he explained that the decision to avoid adding one in recent titles stemmed from resource allocation. The team prioritizes refining existing weapons and adding depth through new combos and moves, rather than focusing on developing entirely new ones. The difficulty lies in designing a weapon that doesn't overly overlap with existing options.

Capcom's Approach to Weapon Refinement in Monster Hunter Wilds

Capcom continues to innovate, enhancing existing weapons in MH Wilds with features like Focus Mode and Power Clash. While incorporating community feedback from the beta, Tokuda emphasized maintaining the core feel of each weapon.

Balancing weapons across titles is a complex process. Tokuda explained that the team establishes a concept for each weapon's feel in each game, but the final experience is only truly determined by player feedback. Balancing in Wilds proved particularly challenging, given the numerous additions to weapon move sets and abilities in Iceborne. This expansion introduced master rank difficulty, assuming players already mastered basic techniques, hence the focus on advanced moves and abilities.

Monster Hunter Now x Monster Hunter Wilds Collaboration Event Phase 2

Phase 2 of the MH Wilds x MH Now collaboration event begins February 28, 2025, featuring the Chatacabra and 12 Hope weapons from MH Wilds, plus new layered armors. Players can earn vouchers for MH Wilds items (Mega Potion, Dust of Life, etc.) through limited-time quests, redeemable across all platforms.

Niantic's Senior Producer, Sakae Osumi, hinted at future collaborations in an February 18, 2025 press briefing, expressing interest in incorporating more monsters from Wilds.
