In today's highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, Nintendo unveiled that nearly the entire catalog of the original Nintendo Switch will be compatible with the Nintendo Switch 2. However, a select group of popular titles are set to receive enhanced "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" versions, featuring unique upgrades and special features. This exciting list includes beloved games such as The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Pokemon Legends: Z-A, and Mario Party: Jamboree.
Each Nintendo Switch 2 Edition game will offer distinct enhancements. The presentation kicked off with Super Mario Party: Jamboree, which is set to introduce "Jamboree TV", an innovative feature that incorporates mouse controls, audio recognition, "more expressive rumble", and gameplay utilizing the new camera accessory. This promises to redefine the party game experience on the new console.
Following this, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom were showcased, both receiving upgrades in resolution, framerate, and HDR support. Additionally, players will benefit from the new Zelda Notes feature on the Nintendo Switch Online app, which offers voice guidance to assist in locating Shrines and Koroks, and a QR code sharing system for creations in Tears of the Kingdom, enhancing the social aspect of gameplay.
Kirby and the Forgotten Land is slated to feature a new story exclusive to the Nintendo Switch 2 titled "Star-Crossed World", along with improved graphics and framerates, promising an even more immersive adventure for fans.
New titles such as Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and Pokemon Legends: Z-A are also receiving upgraded versions. Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will boast mouse control capabilities alongside 4K resolution at 60fps and HDR support, while Pokemon Legends: Z-A will feature enhanced resolution and framerates, ensuring a visually stunning gaming experience.
All these upgraded games will be available in both physical and digital formats. Moreover, for owners of the original Switch versions of Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Mario Party, and Kirby, upgrade packs will be available for purchase, allowing seamless transition to the enhanced Nintendo Switch 2 Editions.

Later in the presentation, several third-party titles were announced to receive Nintendo Switch 2 Editions as well. These include Civilization 7, which will feature mouse support, and Street Fighter 6, which will offer exclusive game modes for the Switch 2, adding to the console's diverse gaming library.
Nintendo piqued our interest last week with a webpage mentioning "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" games in a footnote related to the new Virtual Game Card system. It was noted that these enhanced versions cannot be transferred via Virtual Game Card to the original Nintendo Switch, ensuring that players looking for the latest and greatest will need to experience them on the new console.
