Rocksteady begins search for Game Director for its next Batman game

Mar 05,2025 Author: Zoey

Rocksteady Studios is seeking a Game Director for its next major project, as revealed in a Warner Bros. Discovery job posting on February 17th.

The successful applicant will be responsible for crafting a high-quality game design, encompassing all aspects from core gameplay mechanics and player progression to combat systems and mission structure. Experience in diverse genres, including third-person action, open-world adventures, and melee combat titles, is highly desirable. This has fueled speculation about a potential return to the Batman franchise, the series that propelled Rocksteady to prominence.

The requirements closely mirror the Batman: Arkham series, unlike the studio's recent release, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, which prioritized gunplay over close-quarters combat.

As Rocksteady is in the early stages of recruitment, the project is likely still in its conceptual phase. Industry expert Jason Schreier suggests that, should a new single-player Batman game materialize, it wouldn't launch for several years.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, released February 2nd, 2024, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Steam), received mixed critical reception (Metacritic score: 63/100) and a significantly lower player rating (4.2/10).

Previous reports indicated a possible Rocksteady return to the Batman universe, with rumors suggesting a project inspired by Batman Beyond.
