RuneScape: Dragonwilds stunned fans with its unexpected early access debut just weeks after its initial teaser. Discover details about the game’s early access phase and what lies ahead for players.
Dragonwilds Early Access Livestream Highlights
Early Access Now Live!
RuneScape: Dragonwilds dropped a surprise early access announcement. In a livestream on April 16, Jagex, the game’s developer, revealed that the title is now playable on Steam, following its first trailer just weeks earlier.
The sudden launch caught fans off guard, as the game only opened for wishlisting on Steam on April 1 and shared its first gameplay teaser on April 2. First hinted at in 2022, the project remained under wraps until late 2024, when Jagex invited alpha testing signups for a “new survival game in the RuneScape universe.” The official reveal as RuneScape: Dragonwilds arrived on March 31, 2025.
Full Release Targeted for Early 2026
Jagex projects a full release for Dragonwilds in early 2026. The team emphasized, “We’re committed to refining every detail to deliver a polished, engaging experience that players will want to return to with friends.”
Jesse America, Jagex’s Executive Producer, described Dragonwilds as a fresh take on the RuneScape universe crafted for dedicated fans. He noted that early access marks the beginning of a collaborative journey with the community.
“During Early Access, we’ll roll out regular updates with new content and features, working closely with players to shape an iconic open-world survival crafting game that resonates with both longtime RuneScape fans and newcomers,” America said.
Early Access Roadmap Unveiled
Jagex shared the early access roadmap, outlining exciting updates for players. A highlight is the upcoming Fellhollow region, a haunting area caught between life and death.
Ruled by the soul-eating dragon Imaru, influenced by Ashenfall’s wild anima and the Underworld’s cursed energy, Fellhollow introduces players to the iconic RuneScape character Death. New quests, lore, gear, music, and skills for magic, ranged, and farming are also on the way.
The game will feature Lesser Dragons as a new enemy type, dragon slayer gear, a hardcore mode, a creative mode, and more. While specific release dates for these updates remain unconfirmed, Jagex promised continuous improvements throughout early access.
Exclusive Early Access Rewards
Players who purchase Dragonwilds during early access will unlock exclusive in-game rewards. According to the game’s Steam page, “Early Adopters” will receive:
● Pioneer’s Scarf
● Pioneer’s Tapestry
● Pioneer’s Cape
● Two exclusive music tracks from the game
RuneScape: Dragonwilds is available now on PC for $29.99 during early access. Jagex confirmed that the full release will carry a higher price. All updates during early access will be free, with potential paid DLC planned for post-launch content.
