Exciting news for fans of Stellar Blade—developer Shift Up has officially announced that a full sequel is in the works. The original PlayStation-published action game, which debuted in April 2024, was met with enthusiastic reception, drawing comparisons to the gameplay styles of NieR: Automata and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. In a recent financial results presentation, Shift Up unveiled a chart outlining their future plans, confirming the development of the Stellar Blade sequel among other projects slated for release before 2027.
Before diving into the sequel, fans can look forward to a "platform expansion" for Stellar Blade, which is expected to be the game's much-anticipated PC version, scheduled for release on June 11, 2025. Alongside this, Shift Up is also working on a new multiplatform action RPG titled Project Witches, although details about this project remain under wraps.
In related news, Shift Up recently addressed a PC region lock issue with Sony, which had previously blocked the game's store page on Steam in over 100 countries. They are actively working to resolve this.
IGN's review of Stellar Blade praised its visually stunning design and robust combat system, which draws heavily from Sekiro. While the game excels in action, it was noted that the story and characters could use more depth, and some RPG elements, such as sidequests, felt underdeveloped. However, the game's combat and exploration features were highlighted as significant strengths, offering players a challenging and rewarding experience.
