Suikoden 1 & 2 HD Remaster Development Took Longer Than Anticipated
A Commitment to Honoring the Classics

The Suikoden 1 & 2 HD Remaster required five years of dedicated work to deliver a premium experience true to the originals. In a March 4, 2025 interview with Dengeki Online, the development team detailed their meticulous process for producing a high-quality remaster.
Initially announced in 2022 with a planned 2023 launch, the release was postponed and is now scheduled for this year. Takahiro Sakiyama, IP and Game Director for the Suikoden Gensho series, explained that during final debugging, the team recognized the need for further refinement, leading to the delay.
Game Director Tatsuya Ogushi added, "We began by carefully assessing the situation. After discussing quality standards with Sakiyama, it became evident numerous aspects required substantial improvement, and we committed to addressing them thoroughly."
Breathing New Life into the Franchise

This remaster represents more than a standalone project—it's the initial phase in revitalizing the Suikoden franchise. Series Producer Rui Naito shared their overarching vision for the series and potential future endeavors.
Naito emphasized to the production team, "This marks the first step in reviving the Suikoden IP, so we had to ensure a strong foundation. Our directive was to create something robust and polished." He continued, "For Suikoden I & II HDR, I instructed Sakiyama and the team to deliver a solid product, as releasing an incomplete work at this crucial juncture could halt the series' revival."
Gensou Suikoden Live Unveils New Anime, Mobile Game, and Additional Projects

The March 4, 2025 Gensou Suikoden Live event showcased Konami's upcoming projects for the series. Naito described the event as the second phase in the IP's revival, though the total number of steps required remains uncertain.
He remarked, "Accordingly, we've been refining Suikoden I & II HDR while maintaining strong dedication to the upcoming mobile title Suikoden STAR LEAP and the Suikoden II anime. Once we successfully deliver these projects, we can then consider our next moves."
Konami also announced Suikoden: The Anime, an adaptation based on Suikoden 2's narrative. This will be the inaugural production from Konami Animation. Additionally, a mobile game titled "Genso Suikoden: STAR LEAP" is in development. While teaser trailers for both have been released, official launch dates are yet to be confirmed.
Konami continues to develop further projects and events surrounding the Suikoden franchise as they work to return the beloved IP to the spotlight.
