The world of video game movies is littered with more disappointments than most other genres. Iconic flops like the 1993's Super Mario Bros. and 1997's Mortal Kombat: Annihilation are notorious for their poor quality and for failing to capture the essence of their beloved source material. However, there's been a glimmer of hope in recent times, with films like the Sonic the Hedgehog series and The Super Mario Bros. Movie showing Hollywood a more promising path.
