Vincent D'Onofrio Discusses Wilson Fisk's Movie Rights Issues
May 21,2025Author: Christopher
It appears that fans of the notorious Hell's Kitchen villain, Wilson Fisk, might have to temper their expectations for seeing him on the big screen. Vincent D’Onofrio, who brilliantly portrays Fisk in "Daredevil: Born Again," recently shared some disappointing news during an interview on the "Happy Sad Confused" podcast with Josh Horowitz. D’Onofrio revealed that due to complex ownership issues, his character is restricted to television appearances only, dashing hopes for a standalone Wilson Fisk movie or even a cameo in upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe films like "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" and "Avengers: Doomsday."
This limitation could also impact potential future projects, such as a Charlie Cox-led Daredevil movie, where D’Onofrio's presence as the iconic villain would be highly anticipated. The actor's comments suggest that the intricate web of rights and ownership might prevent Fisk's cinematic return indefinitely.
D’Onofrio first brought Wilson Fisk, also known as Kingpin, to life in the 2015 Netflix series "Marvel’s Daredevil." Over three seasons and nearly 40 episodes, which concluded in 2018, his performance as New York City’s most powerful crimelord and future mayor has been lauded by both fans and critics. D’Onofrio's dedication to the character shines through his thoughtful approach to Fisk's portrayal, drawing inspiration from the likes of Harrison Ford and other legendary actors known for their everyman qualities in action roles.
In a recent interview with IGN, D’Onofrio discussed how the humility and nervousness displayed by these actors during action scenes influenced his own multifaceted performance. He cited Gary Cooper's role in "Sergeant York" as an example, emphasizing the importance of humility in making action sequences feel authentic and impactful.
As fans eagerly await the next chapter, "Daredevil: Born Again" Season 1 is currently being released weekly on Disney+, with the season finale set to premiere on April 15, 2025.
