Fans of *The Witcher* series will need to temper their excitement, as CD Projekt Red has officially confirmed that *The Witcher 4* won't be hitting the shelves in 2026. This news comes directly from the developer's fiscal year 2024 earnings presentation, where they not only shared their financial aspirations but also clarified that the game's release is not on the immediate horizon.
No Specific Release Window Yet
During the presentation, CD Projekt Red outlined their financial goals, emphasizing that these objectives would not be met through the release of *The Witcher 4* by the end of 2026. This statement was further discussed in the Q&A session, where the studio's Chief Financial Officer, Piotr Nielubowicz, firmly stated that they would not disclose a precise launch date for the game at this time. He added, "All we could share now to give more visibility to investors is that the game will not be launched within the time frame of the first target for the incentive program, which ends December 31, 2026."
Full Speed Ahead In Production
Despite the delay, *The Witcher 4* is making significant strides in its development. CD Projekt Red has entered "full production" on the game, as announced in their Q3 financial update last year. Nielubowicz expressed optimism about the project's progress, stating, "Of all our projects, this one [Project Polaris/The Witcher 4] is currently the most far along, and we're starting the most intensive phase of development. I wish to thank the team for its effort and I'm keeping my fingers crossed for further progress."
Originally announced as Project Polaris in 2022, *The Witcher 4* was unveiled in full during The Game Awards 2024 with a stunning six-minute cinematic trailer. This new installment marks a significant shift in the series, moving away from the iconic Geralt of Rivia to focus on his adoptive daughter, Ciri, who has grown into a more mature and capable protagonist, following in Geralt's footsteps.
CD Projekt's plans extend beyond *The Witcher 4*. As revealed on their X (Twitter) account in October 2022, this game will be the first in a new trilogy. The subsequent titles, tentatively named Project Canis Majoris and Project Orion, are slated to release within a six-year window following *The Witcher 4*.
