Annapurna Interactive's Entire Game Division Resigns, Casting Doubt on the Future
A mass resignation has rocked Annapurna Interactive, the video game publishing arm of Annapurna Pictures. The entire staff, reportedly over 20 employees, resigned following failed negotiations with parent company Annapurna Pictures.
The Fallout at Annapurna Interactive
The resignation, led by former president Nathan Gary, stemmed from an attempt to establish Annapurna Interactive as an independent entity. When negotiations with Annapurna Pictures failed, the entire team followed Gary's lead.
According to Bloomberg, Gary confirmed the collective resignation of all 25 team members, stating it was a difficult but necessary decision.
Annapurna Pictures' Megan Ellison assured partners of their continued commitment to existing projects and expansion within interactive entertainment. She highlighted their focus on integrating storytelling across film, TV, gaming, and theater.
The impact of this event is significant, leaving indie developers who collaborated with Annapurna Interactive in uncertain positions. Many are now seeking new points of contact to ensure ongoing project support and contract fulfillment. Remedy Entertainment, involved in the development of Control 2 with Annapurna Interactive, clarified that their agreement is with Annapurna Pictures and they are self-publishing Control 2.
Annapurna Interactive has appointed Hector Sanchez, a co-founder, as the new president. Sources indicate Sanchez is committed to upholding existing contracts and replacing departing staff. This follows a recent company restructuring that also saw the departure of Deborah Mars and Nathan Vella.
