Bloodborne Fan Remake's Copyright Woes Spark Remake Rumors

Bloodborne fan projects continue to face copyright claims from Sony. Following a takedown notice for the Bloodborne 60fps mod last week, Lilith Walther, creator of the Bloodborne PSX demake, reported a copyright claim on a YouTube video of their project by MarkScan Enforcement, a company reportedly hired by Sony. Lance McDonald, creator of the 60fps mod, confirmed MarkScan's involvement, noting they also issued the DMCA for his mod.
McDonald speculates that Sony's actions are preemptive, aiming to clear the way for an official 60fps remake or remaster by removing fan projects from search results. This theory suggests Sony intends to trademark related phrases like "Bloodborne 60fps" and "Bloodborne remake."
The situation highlights the ongoing frustration surrounding Bloodborne's lack of official next-gen support. While PS4 emulators now offer a near-remaster experience at 60fps, Sony's response remains ambiguous. Former PlayStation executive Shuhei Yoshida offered a personal theory, suggesting Hidetaka Miyazaki's strong attachment to the game prevents him from allowing others to work on it, a sentiment respected by the PlayStation team.
Despite Miyazaki's past comments acknowledging the game's suitability for modern hardware and FromSoftware's lack of IP ownership, Bloodborne's future remains uncertain, leaving fans yearning for a sequel or at least an official update nearly a decade after its initial release.
