Choosing Your Class in Citizen Sleeper 2: A Guide

Apr 11,2025 Author: Sophia

When starting *Citizen Sleeper 2*, players face the crucial decision of selecting one of three classes: Operator, Machinist, or Extractor. Your choice should align with your preferred play style and the role you wish to embody within the game's universe. Here's a detailed look at each class, their abilities, and who might find them appealing from a role-play perspective.

Operator

The Operator class begins with a + in Interface, base levels in Intuit and Engage, and no points in Engineer. Notably, they cannot level up Endure. Their unique ability allows them to accrue Stress in exchange for re-rolling their lowest dice, which can be a double-edged sword. While the Operator becomes significantly more powerful as you upgrade abilities, the early game can present some challenges. Interface is a valuable skill, making the Operator a solid choice if you can navigate the initial difficulties. However, the re-roll ability might not always yield favorable outcomes.

From a role-play perspective, the Operator offers flexibility, allowing you to embody various character types within the game's narrative.

Machinist

Starting with a + in Engineer, base levels in Interface and Intuit, and no points in Endure, the Machinist cannot level up Engage. Their ability lets them gain a Stress to add +2 to their lowest dice, and they also lose 2 Stress on a Positive outcome. As you progress through *Citizen Sleeper 2*, this class can further enhance their dice rolls and manage Stress effectively.

I found the Machinist to be my favorite during my first playthrough due to its utility in navigating tough situations and the frequent Engineer and Interface checks. The ability to reduce Stress is particularly beneficial, given how managing this mechanic can be one of the game's more challenging aspects.

For those interested in the mechanical and technical elements of the game's world, the Machinist class is an excellent fit from a role-play standpoint.

Extractor

The Extractor starts with a + in Endure, base levels in Engineer and Engage, and no points in Interface. They cannot level up Intuit. Their ability allows them to gain a Stress to add +2 to the lowest dice of their crew, which can be upgraded to further enhance crew performance as the game progresses.

The Extractor's ability is highly effective for managing crew during Contracts, reducing the risk involved. With many game elements requiring Endure, starting with a bonus in this skill is advantageous. However, acquiring crew members with high Endure and Engage skills became common in my playthrough, which slightly diminished the Extractor's unique edge.

From a role-play perspective, the Extractor is ideal for players who envision themselves as a rugged, resilient character within *Citizen Sleeper 2*.

In summary, choosing the right class in *Citizen Sleeper 2* hinges on your preferred gameplay mechanics and the character archetype you wish to explore. Each class offers distinct advantages and challenges, enriching your experience in this immersive world.
