Action-adventure title MindsEye launches today across PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, marking the debut project from Grand Theft Auto veteran Leslie Benzies' studio. However, Xbox players face an unexpected delay receiving the crucial day-one update.

Critical Patch Delayed for Xbox

Build A Rocket Boy confirmed through a Reddit post that platform certification differences have postponed the 16GB update's Xbox release. The studio emphasized this patch contains essential enhancements that significantly improve the intended gameplay experience.

"This update delivers vital final refinements," developers stated, listing "core gameplay improvements, visual enhancements, stability upgrades and performance optimizations." While the team committed to releasing the Xbox patch promptly, they couldn't provide a definitive timeframe beyond "as soon as possible."

Developer Warns Against Early Playthroughs

Last week, the studio advised players to wait for official launch rather than experiencing early copies already circulating. Initial impressions of the unpatched version drew criticism about technical performance issues.

"We want everyone to experience the narrative simultaneously without preconceptions," developers explained regarding their stance against premature gameplay. This philosophy now extends differently to Xbox owners awaiting their update.

Addressing Online Controversies

Studio executives previously suggested coordinated attempts to discredit MindsEye through fake accounts, prompting questions to publishing partner IO Interactive. "The game should stand on its own merits at launch," responded IO Interactive's Hakan Abrak when pressed about alleged review manipulation.

MindsEye's Development Journey

Originally conceived as episodic content for the discontinued platform Everywhere, MindsEye evolved into a standalone narrative experience. While maintaining some world-building tools from its origins, the focus now rests squarely on its single-player campaign.

Players assume the role of Jacob Diaz, a former military drone operator psychologically fractured by experimental neural implants. The story unfolds through investigative missions that reconstruct Diaz's traumatic past while battling his fragmented psyche. Customization options allow personalizing certain aspects using remnants of the Everywhere toolkit, though the social metaverse elements have been significantly scaled back.
