Palworld's staggering financial success could elevate developer Pocketpair's next project to "beyond AAA" status. Yet CEO Takuro Mizobe reveals the studio is charting a different course. Here's why.
Palworld Earnings Position Pocketpair for AAA+ Potential
Pocketpair Commits to Indie Roots While Supporting Community

The creature-catching survival phenomenon Palworld has generated extraordinary profits for Pocketpair - enough to potentially fund a game exceeding traditional AAA standards. Yet CEO Takuro Mizobe remains uninterested in chasing blockbuster development.
Speaking with GameSpark, Mizobe disclosed Palworld's revenue reached "tens of billions of yen" (approximately $68.5 million USD). Despite this windfall, he believes Pocketpair lacks the infrastructure to responsibly manage projects of that scale.
The studio previously funded Palworld through earnings from Craftopia and Overdungeon. Now flush with blockbuster-level resources, Mizobe sees premature expansion as unwise, stating:

"Scaling beyond AAA with our current organizational maturity would be unsustainable. We're simply not structured for that," Mizobe explained. He emphasized preferring indie-scale projects offering creative freedom over big-budget productions.
The studio intends to prove quality isn't defined by budget size. Mizobe notes how challenging AAA development has become, while improved tools empower indie teams to create global hits without massive operations. Pocketpair credits the indie community for their success and wants to reciprocate that support.
Palworld Expands Into New Media Ventures

Rather than corporate expansion, Pocketpair will diversify Palworld across different media formats. Still in early access, the game continues receiving substantial updates like the PvP Arena and Sakurajima island expansion.
The newly formed Palworld Entertainment (a collaboration with Sony) will manage global licensing and merchandising, extending the IP's reach beyond gaming.
