On February 3rd, 2025, Battlefield Studios, in partnership with Electronic Arts (EA), announced Battlefield Labs. This groundbreaking program invites players to actively participate in shaping the future of the Battlefield franchise. Players will have the opportunity to test and provide feedback on game concepts, mechanics, and features for upcoming Battlefield titles.

The announcement highlighted the crucial role community collaboration will play in the development process. Players will be at the forefront, directly influencing the development of new features and mechanics.

Battlefield Studios will initially invite players from European and North American servers to participate in the first phase of Battlefield Labs. While a specific release date remains unannounced, interested individuals can register their interest now via [this link].

"This game holds immense potential," stated Vince Zampella, Head of Respawn & Group GM for EA Studios Organization. "Being in the pre-alpha stage, now is the perfect time to test the experiences our teams have been developing for our upcoming launch. Battlefield Labs empowers our teams to achieve this."

While participation in Battlefield Labs will be initially limited, Battlefield Studios assures the broader community will receive regular updates throughout the testing phase. This ensures everyone can follow the progress, even those not directly involved. Furthermore, the studio plans to extend this collaborative approach to future Battlefield titles.

"Battlefield Studios comprises DICE, creators of the Battlefield franchise; Ripple Effect, a studio led by franchise veterans working on a brand-new experience; Motive, the developers behind the acclaimed Star Wars Squadrons and Dead Space; and Criterion, renowned for its racing franchises and significant contributions to several Battlefield entries."

Features and Mechanics Undergoing Testing in Battlefield Labs

While access to Battlefield Labs will be selective, players will have a significant impact on the final product. The focus will be on testing specific aspects of the game, allowing for thorough feedback integration. Battlefield Studios has revealed the key areas players can expect to contribute to:

"We'll begin by testing the core pillars of gameplay, including core combat and destruction," Battlefield Studios explained. "We will then move on to balancing and feedback on our weapons, vehicles, and gadgets, ultimately leading to the integration of all these elements in our maps, modes, and squad play." The testing will include two established modes, Conquest and Breakthrough, providing opportunities to explore innovative improvements.

Conquest mode centers around large-scale battles focused on capturing Control Points (flags). Teams compete, losing tickets upon respawn or when the enemy controls more flags. The first team to deplete its tickets loses.

Breakthrough mode divides players into attackers and defenders. Attackers aim to capture sectors, while defenders impede their progress. A similar ticket system is used, with attackers regaining tickets by securing sectors and eliminating remaining enemies.

Finally, Battlefield Studios seeks player feedback to refine the class system in future Battlefield games. While confident in their progress, the team recognizes the invaluable contribution of player feedback: "We rigorously playtest, but your feedback will significantly accelerate our development as we strive for the perfect balance of form, function, and feel."
