In a recent interview, Hashino expressed his interest in creating a game set during the Sengoku period, highlighting its potential as an ideal setting for a new Japanese role-playing game. He suggested that this game could draw inspiration from the Basara series, indicating a unique direction for the studio's future projects.
Regarding Metaphor: ReFantazio, Hashino clarified that there are no solid plans to turn it into a series at the moment. However, he remains committed to seeing the current project through to its completion. Originally, Metaphor: ReFantazio was envisioned as the third major Japanese role-playing game series, following in the footsteps of Persona and Shin Megami Tensei. Hashino's goal is for this game to become a flagship project for the company.
Despite earlier statements about no sequels being planned, the development team is already moving forward with a new project, which is not expected to be Metaphor: ReFantazio 2. Meanwhile, discussions about an anime adaptation of Metaphor: ReFantazio are underway. The game has achieved significant success, marking Atlus' most successful platform launch to date.
Metaphor: ReFantazio has seen an impressive peak of 85,961 concurrent users, surpassing the numbers achieved by Persona 5 Royal with 35,474 players and Persona 3 Reload with 45,002. The game is available on multiple platforms including PC, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5, broadening its reach and accessibility to a wide audience.
