Ubisoft蒙特利尔工作室正在开发一款代号为“Alterra”的全新沙盒游戏，这款游戏融合了《我的世界》和《集合啦！动物森友会》的元素，预计将带来独特的voxel风格游戏体验。
据Insider Gaming 11月26日的报道，这款游戏是基于此前一个开发四年后被取消的voxel游戏项目重新打造的。游戏玩法循环类似于《集合啦！动物森友会》，玩家将在一个岛屿上与被称为“Matterlings”的生物互动。这些生物的设计灵感来自龙、猫、狗等虚构和现实生物，并且拥有各种服装变化，其外观有点像Funko Pop玩偶，头部较大。
玩家可以建造房屋、捕捉昆虫和其他野生动物，并与其他Matterlings互动。此外，玩家还可以离开家岛探索其他不同的生物群落，收集各种材料，但旅途中也会遇到敌人。游戏也融入了《我的世界》式的机制，不同的生物群落对应着不同的建筑材料，例如森林生物群落拥有丰富的木材资源。
该项目已开发超过18个月，由在育碧工作24年的Fabien Lhéraud担任首席制作人，Patrick Redding担任创意总监。尽管消息令人兴奋，但由于“Alterra”仍在开发中，一切信息都可能发生变化，请谨慎看待。
Voxel游戏采用独特的建模和渲染方式，使用微小的立方体或像素组合成3D物体。简单来说，就像乐高积木一样，可以组合成更复杂的对象。与之形成对比的是，像《S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2》或《Metaphor: ReFantazio》这样的游戏使用多边形渲染画面，由数百万个微小的三角形构成表面。因此，当玩家意外进入物体内部时，通常会遇到空的空间。而在Voxel游戏中，由于每个块或像素都是堆叠在一起构成物体，所以不会出现这种情况。
大多数开发者出于效率原因使用基于多边形的渲染，因为它只需要创建表面来渲染游戏中的物体。然而，育碧的“Alterra”项目及其voxel图形技术依然值得期待。
