CD Projekt Red recently confirmed exciting new details about The Witcher 4, including fresh locations and terrifying creatures, in an interview with Gamertag Radio.
The Witcher 4 Explores Uncharted Territories and Monstrous Threats
A Glimpse into Stromford and the Bauk
Following the Game Awards 2024 on December 14th, game director Sebastian Kalemba and executive producer Gosia Mitręga spoke with Gamertag Radio's Parris, revealing that The Witcher 4 will feature entirely new areas and a host of never-before-seen monsters.
Ciri's journey will lead players to uncharted corners of the Continent. Kalemba identified the village shown in the reveal trailer as Stromford, a place where disturbing rituals involving the sacrifice of young girls are performed to appease a sinister entity.
This entity, revealed to be a monster named Bauk, is inspired by Serbian mythology. Kalemba described Bauk as a "tricky bastard" that instills primal fear in its victims. And Bauk is just the beginning; players can expect to encounter a wide array of new monstrous foes.
While Kalemba expressed his enthusiasm for discussing these new elements, he remained tight-lipped about specific details, promising only that players will experience something completely fresh and unexpected within the familiar world of the Continent.
A subsequent interview with Skill UP on December 15th confirmed that The Witcher 4's map size will be roughly comparable to The Witcher 3. Given Stromford's location in the far north, it suggests Ciri's adventures will extend far beyond the territories explored by Geralt.
Revolutionizing NPCs in The Witcher 4
Returning to the Gamertag Radio interview, Kalemba highlighted significant advancements in the game's non-player characters (NPCs). Parris noted the increased diversity in the new trailer compared to The Witcher 3's reuse of character models. Kalemba responded that they are striving to give "every single NPC" a unique life and backstory, emphasizing the impact of a close-knit community like Stromford on interactions with Ciri and other characters.
CD Projekt Red is also enhancing NPC visuals, behavior, and facial expressions to create a more immersive experience. This promises richer interactions and a more believable world.
While details remain scarce, the information released suggests a significant leap forward in NPC interaction and a more immersive and believable world.
