Bloodborne Fans Celebrate 10th Anniversary, Rally for Return to Yharnam Amid No Sequel or Update

Today marks the 10th anniversary of *Bloodborne*, FromSoftware's iconic PlayStation 4 title that launched on March 24, 2015. Fans are celebrating this milestone by organizing another "Return to Yharnam" community event, a testament to the game's enduring popularity and the strong community it has fostered. Since its release, *Bloodborne* has not only garnered critical and commercial success but has also solidified FromSoftware's reputation as a leading developer in the gaming industry.
Despite its success, fans have been left puzzled and frustrated by the lack of a follow-up to *Bloodborne*. Neither a current-gen remaster, a sequel, nor a next-gen update that would allow the game to run at 60fps has materialized. The silence from Sony on this matter remains one of the most baffling decisions in the video game industry.
Earlier this year, some insight into this situation was offered by Shuhei Yoshida, a former PlayStation executive. In an interview with Kinda Funny Games, Yoshida shared his personal theory on why *Bloodborne* has seen no further development. He emphasized that his perspective is not based on insider knowledge but rather a personal conjecture. Yoshida suggested that Hidetaka Miyazaki, the head of FromSoftware and the visionary behind *Bloodborne*, might be protective of the game. According to Yoshida, Miyazaki's success and busy schedule with other projects could mean he is reluctant to let anyone else work on *Bloodborne*, and Sony respects his wishes.
Miyazaki has indeed been incredibly busy since *Bloodborne*. He directed *Dark Souls 3*, *Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice*, and the blockbuster hit *Elden Ring*. Despite the success of these titles, Miyazaki has consistently deflected questions about *Bloodborne*, often citing that FromSoftware does not own the intellectual property. However, he did acknowledge last year that the game would benefit from a release on more modern hardware.
In the absence of official updates, fans and modders have taken it upon themselves to enhance the *Bloodborne* experience. Notable efforts include Lance McDonald's 60fps mod, which was unfortunately met with a takedown notice from Sony four years after its release. Similarly, Lilith Walther's projects, including *Nightmare Kart* and a *Bloodborne* PSX demake, faced copyright issues. More recently, advancements in PS4 emulation via ShadPS4 have enabled *Bloodborne* to be played at 60fps on PC, prompting speculation about Sony's reaction to these developments.
With no official word from Sony, *Bloodborne* enthusiasts have continued to organize community events like the "Return to Yharnam" drive. Today's event encourages players to start a new character, engage with as many co-operators and invaders as possible, and leave in-game messages to signify participation in this community celebration. As fans continue to celebrate and engage with the game, the future of *Bloodborne* remains uncertain, leaving these community-driven efforts as the primary way for fans to experience and share their love for the game.
