Will Wright, creator of The Sims, recently offered a deeper look into his new AI-powered life simulation game, Proxi, during a Twitch livestream with BreakthroughT1D. This follows the release of a "not-a-trailer-trailer" last month. The game, developed by Gallium Studio, is shaping up to be a unique experience focused on interactive memories.
The livestream, part of BreakthroughT1D's Dev Diaries series, saw Wright discuss Proxi's core mechanics. Players input personal memories as text, which the game then transforms into animated 3D scenes. These scenes are customizable using in-game assets for a more accurate representation of the recalled event.
Each memory, termed a "mem," enhances the game's AI and populates the player's "mind world," a navigable 3D environment composed of hexagons. As the mind world expands, so does the presence of Proxies—AI representations of friends and family—linked to specific memories. This allows for dynamic timeline manipulation and connection of memories to different Proxies. Interestingly, Proxies are even exportable to other game platforms such as Minecraft and Roblox.
Wright emphasized Proxi's goal of creating "magical connections with memories, bringing them to life." He highlighted the game's personal focus: "I found myself getting continuously closer and closer to the player. Kind of a saying I've lived by, which is that no game designer has ever gone wrong by overestimating the narcissism of their players." He jokingly added, "It goes to figure that the more I can make a game about you, the more you'll like it."
Proxi is now featured on Gallium Studio's website, with platform announcements expected soon.
