After 15 years at Sledgehammer Games, Call of Duty multiplayer creative director Greg Reisdorf has departed. His tenure spanned numerous Call of Duty titles, beginning with Modern Warfare 3 in 2011. Reisdorf played a pivotal role in the development of 2023's Modern Warfare 3 multiplayer, including its live seasonal content and modes.
Reisdorf's journey with Sledgehammer Games, established in 2009, encompassed key contributions to various Call of Duty installments. His involvement extended beyond Sledgehammer's own projects, encompassing collaborations with Treyarch, Infinity Ward, and Raven Software on titles including 2024's Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and Call of Duty: Warzone.
In a January 13th Twitter announcement, Reisdorf detailed his career highlights. His early work on Modern Warfare 3, notably the Scorched Earth campaign mission and a memorable sequence in the Blood Brothers mission, provided a strong foundation. He also contributed significantly to the "boots on the ground" era of Call of Duty, shaping gameplay mechanics in Advanced Warfare, including boost jumps and tactical reloads. While he acknowledges some design choices, such as Advanced Warfare's "Pick 13" system, didn't fully resonate with him, his contributions were undeniable.
Reisdorf's reflections on Call of Duty: WW2 highlighted the initial challenges with the Divisions system and its subsequent improvement. His work on Call of Duty: Vanguard focused on creating enjoyable, traditional three-lane maps, prioritizing fun gameplay over strict military realism.
His final role as creative director for Modern Warfare 3's multiplayer involved overseeing live seasonal content, including the popular Snowfight and Infectious Holiday modes. He contributed to over 20 modes throughout the game's post-launch year. Reisdorf's future plans remain within the gaming industry.
